1X10Mulder and Scully are drawn into a case of government cover up showing how far they will go to prevent lone gunmen like Mulder from finding out the truth.

The episode begins with a tip off from Deep Throat, Mulder's mysterious informant. He tells Mulder that he has 48 hours to investigate a UFO crash before the government destroys all the evidence completely. As if Mulder would turn down an offer like this! He manages to avoid security and sneaks a look at a very interesting site full of men dressed in white protective suits dusting out what looks like a UFO. But Mulder is captured and locked away only for Scully to come and rescue him. Jail was a worthwhile trip though as he meets a UFO enthusiast, Max Fenig who will become more significant later on.

When Mulder returns to his rented appartment in Wisconsin, he finds two things. It has been completely trashed and Max Fenig.

Meanwhile, the military have more to worry about. A mysterious alien entity has escaped from the crash site and is killing anybody in it's way inflicting 5th and 6th degree burns (BLOOPER ALERT!) on its victims. It seems that Max Fenig is also a victim of this entity except he isn't being burned because he has been an abductee for quite some time and now the alien life form wants to get rid of him.

This all leads to a terrific ending where Mulder, Fenig and the military all meet up with the strange entity and have a final match to end it all.

But back in Washington, Mulder's position seems threatened and he is put on the brink of termination. It is Deep Throat who saves him from this though as he has the power to overrule these decisions. But what if Deep Throat were to be killed? Where would that leave Mulder? Maybe that could be a season finale. Hmmm........

Rating: 8 out of 10
Another terrific episode (barring Space) that always manages to surprise and entertain the viewer. It is also helped along by a great performance by David Duchovny. It's one of those really exciting episodes where the action is relentless and it never drags along. Followed by the sequel, Tempus Fugit."
Nitpicking
The doctor at the hospital told M & S that the victims were suffering 5th and 6th degree burns all over their bodies although the body is burned to the bone at 4th degree. Also, Scully tells Mulder that Max Fenig has a scar behind his left ear but when Mulder finds it on Fenig it is on his right ear.
