1X22When two Buffalo cops are murdered, the evidence points towards an eight-year-old girl, who maybe the reincarnation of a murdered man seeking revenge.

The episode begins when Det. Sharon Lazard brings a little lonely girl called Michelle Bishop off from the streets when she finds her lying there. She is put in an interrogation room where she is interviewed by Det. Barbala. A few seconds after she is left alone with the detective a crash is heard and the detective is found on the ground having been thrown out of the window....but no one else is in the room except the little girl.

Mulder is requested for this case after they heard about his death of Tooms and so the agents go to interview the Michelle Bishop's mother who tells them that she sometimes scares her by "Seeing things I can't see".

They also go to interview the little girl who tells them that she saw another man in the room with her. They get her to give a computer expert a description so he can draw a picture of the face on the screen and when they are finished it fits the exact description of Charlie Morris, a cop who died nine years earlier. Mulder concludes to Scully that the little girl must have seen a ghost. Scully, as always, is obviously skeptical.

When they interview Michelle's psychiatrist, she tells them that every time she left the girl alone in the room with a doll she would mutilate it in exactly the same way each time by pulling out the right eye and taking off the left arm. It turns out that this was how Charlie Morris dies as well. With all the evidence, Mulder has a theory that Michelle is in fact a reincarnation of Charlie who died at the same time she was born. He says that she has psychokinetic powers as this is how she threw Barbala out of the window. She must be out for revenge for Charlie's unlawful death.

Mulder gets Michelle hypnotised and while watching the video of this, he spots a sudden image which flashs onto the film. It turns out to be a model of a deep-sea diver which is the same model in the fish tank of a man named Tony Fiore's house. Mulder realizes that Charlie must have been drowned and this was the last thing he saw.

Meanwhile, Michelle kills Barbala's ex-partner who was involved in Charlie's murder by moving his scarf into the doors of a bus which suffocates him when the bus starts moving. There is only one man left to kill now who was involved also in Morris's murder, Tony Fiore. Using her powers she captures Fiore in his home with a cord and is about to kill him when the agents come rushing in just in time to stop it having sussed out that Fiore must be the final victim. The trauma ends when the fish tank bursts open. Later, the two murder's are ruled accidental as Mulder's theories prove too radical. Mulder concludes at the end that the case is closed.

Rating: 4 out of 10
Not really a good episode as everything that happens just seems a bit too laughable especially the final scene between Michelle and Fiore. You just don't care for any of the characters and it would have been far better if we learned a bit more about the little girl so we could identify with her. It is though the first ever episode in which the subject of reincarnation is tackled and where Mulder does the voice over at the end.
Nitpicking
This was a VERY noticeable one. While giving the computer expert her description of the man in the room with her she says his hair was light like hers. But the expert doesn't follow instructions and colours it dark. Really, you're not going to catch any more murderers by mistaking the description [sigh].
