4X06Chicago Greenwood Memorial Hospital seems to offer the chance of a lifetime, to look beautiful simply by going through surgery. For one patient it seems the dream they have been waiting for until the surgeon suddenly goes mad and performs a violent liposuction sucking the man's blood out of his body.

Mulder and Scully come in to investigate this bizarre case. The surgeon seems to be presenting an strange case, he claims to have been possessed by a demon while performing the surgery. Scully is as always skeptical thinking that he just basically went insane but Mulder again opens his mind to the unexplained when he finds a symbol of protection on the floor of the operating theatre, a Pentagram. Meanwhile, another surgeon has gone mad and burned a hole through his patient's face using a laser. The mark is again present again at the crime scene which was supposedly placed on the man's back by a practising witch at the hospital named Nurse Waite.

While interviewing Dr.Franklyn, the agents discover that Nurse Waite has been working at the clinic for over ten years which is when deaths in similar circumstances had occurred. M & S search her home and discover a lot of ritual voodoo witchy things (What do you call them? It's gone right out of my mind). Nurse Waite though is nowhere to be found, she is waiting for Dr.Franklyn in a tub of gore. Intending to kill him with a knife, her attack fails and she is arrested. Mulder interviews her when she suddenly dies before him. Mulder realizes this is a classic case of what the voodoo practitioners call 'death by a hex'.

Mulder theorizes that Waite must have been trying to protect the patients from some unknown and evil force as this was why she drew the symbols. The identity of the unknown suspect is revealed when we see Dr. Franklyn smiling as he is calmly levitating above his bed.

Mulder soon concludes after short investigation that Dr. Franklyn is a black magician who is cursed with vanity. Mulder locates Franklyn but he is too late as the doctor slices off his own face as a part of human sacrifice. Dr. Franklyn and his evil is never to be seen again....or so we think. Dr. Hartman is welcomed aboard at a Los Angeles clinic. Little do they know....

Oh dear! This episode has no enjoyable plot, little realistic interaction between the characters and the gore factor is just far too much. The little sub-plot of Mulder concerned with his appearance is merely a feeble attempt at X-Filing this episode - it fails miserably. It's just no fun to watch at all and it's really boring in parts. The acting by the guest stars is probably the worst ever and I just hate it. Please avoid!!
