4X16Mulder and Scully must battle an invisible Vietnam vet who is doing away with important military officials.

It begins at the US Capitol Mall where a re-dedication ceremony is being held. General Benjamin Bloch is stepping up to deliver his speech. Meanwhile, Mulder and Scully and a few other FBI agents are trying to track down an armed man who is making his way through the crowd of the mall. The only problem is is that when Mulder spots him he suddenly vanishes without a trace.

In flashback we see a lieutenant general named Peter Macdougal being shot at close range in the back of a limo and the driver who is a member of a group named the Right Hand is held under suspicion for this act but is let go when he passes a polygraph test.

Back at the memorial, Skinner orders the two agents to investigate the Right Hand group where they meet up with their leader, an ex-marine named Danny Markham. He gives them a photo of a Green Beret called Nathaniel Teager who was captured by the enemy in 1971 but who vanished in front of their eyes. Scully is not so sure.

At the memorial we see Teager appear to tell a woman named Renee Davenport that her husband is still alive but then vanishes. The agents show the photo to Davenport who identifies him as the man she saw at the memorial. Shortly after her eye haemorrhages for no reason.

Mulder soon learns that Macdougal and a General named Steffan had both signed Teager's death certificate so he orders Steffan to be guarded but he is killed by Teager. It is now that Mulder realizes that Teager can only be captured by finding out his next victim who he realizes will be General Bloch.

Back to the present, we see Bloch being rushed by Skinner from the podium into a limo but Teager is waiting outside. He fires gunshots and tries to make a getaway in the limo but an FBI agent fires at him. Teager is finally dead and the danger is over.

After hearing a lot about this episode, I wasn't particularly expecting too much but it did surprise me. Surely the name Chris Carter as a writer must make a great episode. Unfortunately, this isn't his best but it is very good. The action scenes are very well done and some parts are tense and spooky (eg. Teager stares at Mulder while he looks at a body) and I enjoyed it! However, just not enough to make a classic. That's probably because it completely sacrifices characterization for action and you really just don't care about any of the characters, besides Mulder, Scully and Skinner of course!!
Nitpicking
Hmmm.....
